Welcome to Home On Kingswood!

Hey, I’m Sharadan. Welcome to Home on Kingswood! Interior design has always been a love of mine. I’ll age myself a bit here but do you remember the Sims computer games? I was in heaven when I discovered them. I never actually played the game though…I just designed and styled the houses!

That passion and love for design has only grown. I read once something about the difference between design and decorating. Design is creating something new from nothing. Decorating is putting items together in a way that looks and feels good. I love to do both. The challenge of getting what’s in my head out into a space fills my soul, whether that means designing a whole room, house, or a small moment in a room.

While my personal style tends to be pretty light and airy, with very British inspired moody moments here and there, my goal is always to make a space feel like the people who live there belong in the space. Our homes should be our favorite place to be. They should also showcase the soul of the home and that of those who live there. The trick in that is to find the right balance in form and function, old and new, so that even new construction doesn’t look like a showroom with no reflection of those who live there. My favorite way to do that is to sprinkle in carefully curated vintage pieces. Those pieces with a built in history, paired with pieces with history to be created, can really transform how a space feels. The tulip arrangement above is a great example of that in my own home. The cast iron teapot is an antique piece that my husband gave to me for an anniversary. It had fresh flowers in it at the time but it was an easy swap to add artificial tulips and eucalyptus stems so that I can enjoy it forever. Storied history is what makes a home feel like home and great vintage pieces paired with other decorative items or furniture accomplish that effect immediately.

Each designer has their own process. Some start with the flooring in a room and build the room up, others start from the top down. My process tends to be a bit more organic. I always start with something that I love and build from there. That something might be a decorative item, a piece of furniture, or simply an architectural element of a room like a fireplace or set of windows. The most important thing to remember when imagining, or re-imagining, a space is to stay true to your own taste. Nothing you truly like is ever out of style.

Home takes time. Creating a space that feels like home sets the stage for lasting memories. I’d love to create with you!

My intention for this blog is to share with you tips, tricks, my fave items, and some of my projects. What do you want for this space?

Hey, while you’re here, pop around my site and my socials. I’d love for you to see what I’ve been working on!
